چکیده
Abstract A systematical testing program on frozen Onsøy clay under isotropic loading and undrained shearing at different temperatures (? 3 ~ ? 10 °C), strain rates (0.2~5%/h) initial Terzaghi effective stress (20~400 kPa) was conducted with the focus pore pressure development. It is meant to increase understanding facilitate development of an ‘effective stress’-based model for multi-physical analysis soils. This study adopted measurement method suggested by Arenson Springman (Can Geotech J 42 (2):412–430, 2005. https://doi.org/10.1139/t04-111) developed a new procedure soils, including ‘slow’ freezing sample preparation post-freezing consolidation securing hydraulic equilibrium. The B-value soils less than 1 significantly dependent temperature history. dilative tendency or in condition found be both unfrozen water content mean stress, which consistent Besides, experimental results reported literature regarding uniaxial tests show that shear strength does not share same temperature- salinity-dependency soil types. rate dependency characterized between pure ice therefore highly determined viscous behavior (through dependency). paper also explains response thawing volumetric evolution skeleton.

Seasonal changes in pore water pressure in a grass-covered cut slope in London Clay
In temperate European climates, the season of peak water demand by vegetation (summer) is out of phase with the season of greatest rainfall (winter). This results in seasonal fluctuations in soil water content and, in clay soils, associated problems of shrinking and swelling that can in turn contribute to strain-softening and progressive slope failure. This paper presents field measurements of ...
متن کاملEvolution of Dilatancy Angle during Shearing of Kaolin Clay with Different Microfabrics
The mechanical response of clay mass can be significantly affected by the distribution and arrangement of the particles and the interaction between them. A series of compression and extension tests under drained and undrained conditions were performed on normally consolidated and heavily over-consolidated clay specimens with different microfabric. The experimental data indicates strong influenc...
متن کاملTreatment of expansive soils with quality saline pore water by cyclic drying and wetting
Expansive soils can be found in many parts of the world particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. These soilspose a significant hazard to civil engineering structures due to its high swelling and shrinkage potential. This paperpresents the results of an experimental program developed to investigate the effect of cyclic drying and wetting on theswelling potential of expansive soils with variou...
متن کاملUndrained Behaviour of Clay Reinforced with Surplus Carpet Fibres
A collaborative research programme between University of Bolton and Bradford University is investigating the effect of surplus carpet fibres on the strength as well as other important geotechnical properties of cohesive soils. Initial work concentrates on the manner in which the fibres affect the quick undrained properties of the reinforced soil. Four different surplus carpet fibre types are be...
متن کاملFluidity Onset Analysis in FG Thick-Walled Spherical Tanks under Concurrent Pressure Loading and Heat Gradient
In this paper, fluidity onset analysis in FG thick-walled spherical tanks under concurrent pressure loading and heat gradient has been presented. Designing thick-walled spherical tanks under pressure as tanks holding fluids under heat loads with high heat gradients require new approaches. Under high internal pressure and high temperature, the tank enters the plastic stage in a part of its thickn...
